Tune in: OMPF's Global Watch Party Happening

Couldn’t get enough of Boston’s first-ever One-Minute Play Festival? We didn’t think so.

Good news: The fun’s not over. BPT will host the Festival again in 2013, and in the meantime you can get your one-minute play fix by tuning in to OMPF’s Global Watch Party Happening. Here’s more about it:

On Monday, April 16, 2012, The One-Minute Play Festival (#OMPF) and #NEWPLAY TV join together to launch an experiment we’re calling the Global Watch Party Happening.

This simultaneous, multi-city network of watch parties for viewing the Chicago One-Minute Play Festival is an experiment and a celebration of the possibilities of #NEWPLAY TV’s shared platform and the multiple communities that support the development of local artists and culture through the One-Minute Play Festival.

On Monday April 16th, 2012 at 5:30pm PDT / 7:30pm CDT / 8:30pm EDT, the 2nd Annual Chicago One-Minute Play Festival at Victory Gardens will stream on #NEWPLAY TV at newplaytv.info.

Eighty-five brand new one-minute plays by fifty local Chicago playwrights will be presented by a company of around sixty-five actors, staged by ten directors. Come check out what it being said in the Chicago artistic community at this moment in time by experiencing the work of OMPF, and engaging in a conversation about it.

By engaging and experimenting with us, we hope to bring global attention and conversation to local and regional culture.

To Participate
-Watch parties will be formed in multiple cities across the county, including some of the One-Minute Play Festival Partnering Theaters. We will ask these parties to log onto newplaytv.info at 5:30pm PDT / 7:30pm CDT / 8:30pm EDT so everyone will be watching the stream in real-time and simultaneously.
-We will ask participants to log onto Twitter and use the tag #OMPF to get conversation going.
-We will be throwing challenges out like best group photo or quick fire trivia.

The One-Minute Play Festival (OMPF) is an NYC-based theater company, founded by Dominic D’Andrea. OMPF works in partnership with institutional theaters that share playwright or community-specific missions across the country. OMPF creates local playwright-focused community events, using a specific playmaking process, with the goal of promoting the spirit of radical inclusion by representing the culture of playwrights of different age, gender, race culture, and points of career. OMPF attempts to reflect the theatrical landscape of local artistic communities at a given moment in time by creating dialogue between the collective conscious and the individual voice.

OMPF is the only major American One-Minute Play Festival. This season OMPF is collaborating with theaters like: Primary Stages, The Playwrights Foundation, Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, Victory Gardens Theater, Cornerstone Theatre Company, The South Florida Theatre League at The Deering Estate, Arena Stage, Mixed Blood, and more. Notable Alums incude: David Henry Hwang, Tina Howe, Neil LaBute, Rajiv Joseph, Kristoffer Diaz, Lydia Diamond, Nilaja Sun, Donald Margulies, Craig Lucas, Lisa Loomer, Phillip Kan Gotanda, Michael John Garces, Jason Grote, Mike Daisey, are among over 400 other famous, emerging, and mid-career playwrights of diverse backgrounds.
